How to Boil Potatoes in Instant Pot?
This method explains how to boil russet potatoes in an Instant Pot using a trivet and 1 cup of water. Cooking times vary by potato size from 8 to 15 minutes, allowing evenly cooked potatoes with tender flesh. The potatoes are steamed under pressure and then pressure is released naturally or quickly depending on your timing needs. Removing them promptly stops extra cooking.
Ingredients
- 4 russet potato about 7oz each
- 1 cup water
Instructions
- Clean potatoes with water. Add 1 cup water in the instant pot steel insert. Place trivet and place potatoes on top of the trivet. Close lid with vent in sealing position.
- Pressure cook on Steam mode at high pressure for 10 mins. (see notes for cooking time variation)
- When the instant pot beeps, let the pressure release naturally. If in a hurry, you can release pressure 10 minutes after the beep.
- Remove the potatoes from the instant pot to stop additional cooking.
Notes
- Adjust Instant Pot cooking time between 8 to 15 minutes depending on the size of potatoes used.
- For larger potatoes around 9 ounces each, increase cooking time to about 12 minutes.
- Cooking time remains consistent regardless of number of potatoes, focus on size for timing adjustments.
- Remove potatoes immediately after pressure release to prevent overcooking.
