How to Cook Bacon in the Oven

This method for cooking bacon in the oven delivers evenly crisped strips with minimal mess. By baking at 400°F on a foil-lined sheet without overlap, the bacon cooks uniformly, allowing control over doneness by thickness and desired crispness. This technique simplifies preparation compared to stovetop frying and is useful for cooking multiple strips at once.

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400F and move the rack to the middle position. Line a large baking sheet with tin foil for easier clean-up.
  2. Spread the bacon out on the baking sheet (do not overlap). Most bacon will take 15-20 minutes to cook. If you have thicker bacon and like it very crispy, it may take up to 25 minutes. For very thin bacon, check after 10 minutes.
  3. Remove the bacon to a paper towel lined plate and enjoy.

Notes

  • Cooking duration varies with bacon thickness and oven heat; watch carefully the first few times.
  • For larger batches, fit more than 12 strips by spreading them or bake on two sheets at different rack positions.
  • Drain cooked bacon on paper towels to remove excess grease before serving.
