How to Cook Perfect Rice in the Instant Pot
This technique for cooking basmati rice in the Instant Pot ensures fluffy, separated grains with a tender texture. Using equal parts rice and water, along with a bit of olive oil or butter and salt, the rice cooks under pressure, which helps retain moisture and shape. The recipe includes a resting step that lets steam finish the cooking, providing consistent results without sticking or clumping.
Ingredients
- 2 cups basmati rice
- 2 cups water or broth
- 2 tablespoons olive oil or unsalted butter
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Tools:
- trivet
- Insert Pan
Instructions
- Rinse and drain the rice well.
- Add about 2 cups of water to the inner pot of the pressure cooker.
- Add the rice, salt and the two cups of water, oil or butter, to an Instant Pot safe dish/pot. Stir to combine.
- Add a long legged trivet to the Instant Pot. Add the pot with the rice onto the trivet. Cover with aluminum foil and pinch a few times with a fork. If using the same pot that I did, it comes with a steamer lid.
- Cook:
- Close lid and pressure cook at High Pressure for 5 minutes + 10 minutes Natural Release. Turn off the heat. Release the remaining pressure. Open the lid.
- Remove the pot with the rice, let it rest covered for 5-10 minutes.
- Before serving, fluff the rice with a fork.
