How to Ice a Bundt Cake - an Easy and Beautiful Technique!

This guide explains a method for icing a Bundt cake by pouring thick but pourable icing evenly over a fully cooled cake while rotating it. The technique creates a smooth, cascading coating that can be decorated with sprinkles or sea salt for a decorative finish. The icing is then left to set for at least an hour to firm up its texture.

Description

How to Ice a Bundt Cake - an Easy and Beautiful Technique! demonstrates a pouring method to distribute icing evenly on a Bundt cake. The cake must be fully cooled, then placed on a serving plate or turntable for easy rotation. Pouring the icing steadily while turning the cake creates a continuous glaze that drapes over the sides. Pausing slightly allows the icing to cascade naturally before resuming the pour. Sprinkles or other decorative touches can be applied while the icing is still wet. Letting the icing set for an hour ensures it adheres and firms up. This method works with any thick but pourable icing flavor and enhances the cake's presentation without complex tools or piping skills.

Ingredients

  • 1 baked cooled, Bundt cake (baked in a traditional Bundt pan)
  • 2 cups Icing any flavor, thick but pourable
  • Sprinkles nonpareils, sea salt, or other decorative touches, if desired

Instructions

  1. Transfer icing to a small bowl or pitcher. If it's an icing you make on the stovetop, you can leave it right in the pan, if desired.
  2. Place completely cooled cake on a serving plate or cake stand. Set plate or cake stand on a small turntable (Lazy Susan) if desired.
  3. Hold bowl (or pitcher or pan) with icing over the center of one side of the cake. Begin pouring with one hand while slowly turning the plate or cake stand with the other hand. Anytime you want the icing to cascade down the sides of the cake, just slow down a bit, then continue going around the cake (see video above).
  4. When you get back to where you started, you can stop or, if you like more icing (like we do), continue around the cake again.
  5. While icing is still "wet" shower with sprinkles, sea salt, etc.
  6. Allow icing to "set" for at least one hour.
