How to Make Garlic Paste?

Garlic paste is made by blending peeled garlic cloves with a neutral oil until smooth. This creates a concentrated garlic ingredient that can enhance various dishes with its fresh, pungent flavor. It's convenient to store and use in cooking to add garlic’s distinctive taste without chopping.

Cuisine: Indian

Ingredients

  • 1 pound garlic peeled, cloves
  • 3 tablespoon neutral cooking oil I used avocado oil, see notes, generic cooking oil

Instructions

    Cup of Yum
  1. Blending: Add the peeled garlic and oil to a blender or food processor. Blend to a smooth paste. Scrape down as needed in between.
Storing
  1. Transfer the garlic paste to an air tight glass container. Top with a thin layer of oil. It can be refrigerated for up to 2 weeks.
  2. To store for longer, freeze in ice-cube trays or resealable plastic bags for 3-4 months. You can fill the bag and flatten it. It will help in easier storage and you can break off the needed amount. You can pop the freezed garlic paste from the ice-cube trays, to store in a plastic bag to save space too.

Notes

  • For freezing, garlic paste can be stored without oil; add water if needed when blending for freezing.
  • Mix equal amounts of ginger and garlic to make ginger-garlic paste for versatile use.
  • Store garlic paste in a sealed glass container topped with oil for freshness up to two weeks refrigerated.
  • Freeze portions in ice cube trays or flatten bags for space-saving long-term storage up to 3-4 months.
