How to Make Garlic Paste?

Garlic paste is made by blending peeled garlic cloves with a neutral oil until smooth. This creates a concentrated garlic ingredient that can enhance various dishes with its fresh, pungent flavor. It's convenient to store and use in cooking to add garlic’s distinctive taste without chopping.

Description

This method for making garlic paste involves blending peeled garlic cloves together with a neutral cooking oil, such as avocado oil, until a smooth paste forms. The oil helps keep the paste fresh and easy to work with. The paste preserves the pungent, sharp flavor of fresh garlic in a ready-to-use form.

The paste can be stored in an airtight glass container in the refrigerator for up to two weeks, with a thin layer of oil on top to protect it from air. For longer storage, freezing in small portions like ice cube trays or flattened resealable bags is recommended, allowing convenient thawing of the desired amount.

This garlic paste can be used as a base for sauces, marinades, and seasoning blends, providing consistent garlic flavor without the texture or time-consuming prep of fresh cloves. Optionally, ginger can be blended alongside garlic to create a combined garlic-ginger paste often used in various cuisines.

Storing

  1. Transfer the garlic paste to an air tight glass container. Top with a thin layer of oil. It can be refrigerated for up to 2 weeks.
  2. To store for longer, freeze in ice-cube trays or resealable plastic bags for 3-4 months. You can fill the bag and flatten it. It will help in easier storage and you can break off the needed amount. You can pop the freezed garlic paste from the ice-cube trays, to store in a plastic bag to save space too.
