How to Make Matcha
This recipe demonstrates making a classic matcha drink by whisking fine matcha powder with a small amount of hot water until foamy, then combining with additional hot water or steamed milk. The result is a smooth, slightly grassy, and subtly sweet beverage that can be customized with maple syrup or other sweeteners.
Ingredients
- ¼ teaspoon matcha green tea powder
- 2 ounces water 175°F is ideal, hot
- 6 ounces hot water almond milk, oat milk, coconut milk, dairy milk, etc, or steamed milk of choice, additional
- maple syrup honey, or other sweetener, optional
Instructions
- Sift the matcha into a mug or small bowl to get rid of any lumps.
- Pour in the 2 ounces of the hot water. Using a matcha whisk or small regular whisk, whisk briskly from side to side until the matcha is fully dispersed and there is a foamy layer on top.
- Add the remaining 6 ounces hot water or steamed milk and whisk again until foamy. Sweeten to taste with maple syrup, honey, or your preferred sweetener, if desired.
