How to Make Matcha

This recipe demonstrates making a classic matcha drink by whisking fine matcha powder with a small amount of hot water until foamy, then combining with additional hot water or steamed milk. The result is a smooth, slightly grassy, and subtly sweet beverage that can be customized with maple syrup or other sweeteners.

Description

How to Make Matcha starts with sifting green tea powder to remove lumps, ensuring a smooth final drink. A small quantity of hot water (around 175°F) is mixed vigorously with the matcha using a whisk to disperse the powder evenly and create a light foam on top. Additional hot water or steamed milk is added and whisked again for a creamy texture.

The flavor is distinctive of matcha—umami and vegetal with a gentle bitterness—which can be sweetened lightly according to taste. Using steamed plant-based or dairy milks allows variation for creamier versions. This preparation highlights the traditional whisking technique for an even, foamy texture that enhances the drinking experience.
