Ingredients

  • 1 cup long-grain white rice jasmine or basmati
  • 2 cups water
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon olive oil optional

Instructions

    Cup of Yum
  1. Rinse 1 cup long-grain white rice under cold water until the water runs clear. This removes excess starch and helps prevent the rice from becoming sticky.
  2. In a medium saucepan, combine the rinsed rice, 2 cups water, 1/2 teaspoon saltand 1 teaspoon olive oil (optional). Stir to combine.
  3. Bring to a boil over high heat. Once boiling, cover with a lid and reduce heat to low.
  4. Cook over low heat for 15 minutes, or until all the water is absorbed and the rice is tender. Do not lift the lid during cooking.
  5. Remove the saucepan from heat and let it sit, covered, for 5 minutes. This helps the rice finish steaming and improves texture.
  6. Fluff rice with a fork and serve warm.

Notes

  • Olive oil can be added to help prevent sticking. You can also use butter if you prefer.
  • Medium-Grain White Rice (Calrose, Valencia, Bomba): 1 1/2 to 1 3/4 cups of water per 1 cup of rice. Cook time is around 15 to 18 minutes.
  • Short-Grain White Rice (Sushi Rice, Glutinous Rice, Sweet Rice): Use 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 cups of water per 1 cup of rice. Cook time is about 18 to 20 minutes
