Instructions
- Rinse 1 cup long-grain white rice under cold water until the water runs clear. This removes excess starch and helps prevent the rice from becoming sticky.
- In a medium saucepan, combine the rinsed rice, 2 cups water, 1/2 teaspoon saltand 1 teaspoon olive oil (optional). Stir to combine.
- Bring to a boil over high heat. Once boiling, cover with a lid and reduce heat to low.
- Cook over low heat for 15 minutes, or until all the water is absorbed and the rice is tender. Do not lift the lid during cooking.
- Remove the saucepan from heat and let it sit, covered, for 5 minutes. This helps the rice finish steaming and improves texture.
- Fluff rice with a fork and serve warm.
Notes
- Olive oil can be added to help prevent sticking. You can also use butter if you prefer.
- Medium-Grain White Rice (Calrose, Valencia, Bomba): 1 1/2 to 1 3/4 cups of water per 1 cup of rice. Cook time is around 15 to 18 minutes.
- Short-Grain White Rice (Sushi Rice, Glutinous Rice, Sweet Rice): Use 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 cups of water per 1 cup of rice. Cook time is about 18 to 20 minutes
