Instant Pot Cinnamon Apples

Instant Pot Cinnamon Apples are made by cooking sliced tart Granny Smith apples with warm spices like cinnamon and nutmeg, sweetened with brown sugar and maple syrup. Pressure cooking softens the apples but helps them keep shape and texture, resulting in a tender, fragrant dish. The recipe uses cornstarch to create a gently thickened sauce, making these apples a versatile topping or side dish that’s easy to prepare quickly.

  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch

  1. Peel the apples, cut them in half, and remove the seeds and core. Slice the apples into 1/2-inch pieces and add them to a large bowl. Sprinkle with lemon juice and toss to combine.
  2. Transfer the sliced apples to the Instant Pot.
  3. Add the brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, and maple syrup. Toss to combine.
  4. In a small bowl, mix the water and cornstarch until smooth. Pour the mixture into the Instant Pot and stir to combine thoroughly.
  5. Secure the lid, lock it, and ensure the valve is sealed.
  6. Press the manual button and set the time to Pressure Cook for one minute.
  7. Once the Instant Pot has finished pressure cooking, do a Quick Release.
  8. Once the valve drops, open the Instant Pot, gently stir the apples and serve.

Notes

  • Granny Smith apples provide tartness and hold shape well; Honeycrisp apples are a good alternative with similar texture and flavor.
  • Add lemon juice to sliced apples to prevent browning and brighten flavor; toss apples in lemon juice individually if preparing large quantities.
  • Ensure enough liquid in the Instant Pot and stir ingredients well before cooking to avoid burn notices.
  • Do not use soft apple varieties like McIntosh or Red Delicious as they become mushy under pressure.
  • Leave peel on if preferred; it softens during cooking and adds texture.
  • An apple corer can speed up preparation time significantly.
