Instant Pot Popcorn
Description
Instant Pot Popcorn begins by heating coconut oil and butter on the Instant Pot's higher sauté setting until melted and hot. Popcorn kernels are added and stirred to coat each kernel in the hot fats. When the first kernel pops, the lid is placed on the Instant Pot without sealing, allowing steam to escape. Popping continues until no kernels remain to pop. This controlled heat prevents burning while popping large volumes at once.
The resulting popcorn carries a subtle coconut butter richness thanks to the choice of coconut oil combined with butter. The texture is light and fluffy with a slight sheen from the fats. This method offers hands-free popping compared to stovetop.
For seasoning, salt can be sprinkled immediately for savory flavor, or caster sugar and spices like cinnamon or pumpkin spice can be added for sweetness. The popcorn should be transferred promptly to containers to keep crispness. This recipe is suitable for snack preparation using only basic ingredients and an Instant Pot.
Ingredients
- 64 g popcorn kernels
- 1 Tbsp coconut oil
- 2 Tsp butter
Kitchen Gadgets
- Instant Pot
Instructions
- Place the instant pot on the sauté setting and then press the sauté button 3 times to adjust it to the higher sauté setting. Then add in the coconut oil and the butter.
- Wait for the instant pot oil and butter to be melted and the instant pot to read hot.
- Then add to the instant pot your corn kernels. Note ½ a cup creates a lot of popcorn so don’t worry if it doesn’t seem like a lot.
- Then mix with a wooden spoon to make sure all the kernels are well coated in hot oil.
- Then wait for the first kernel to pop and once it does place the lid down on the instant pot. No need to set to sealing position.
- Then listen, and when the last kernel has popped remove the lid and stir. Then transfer your big inner pot full of popcorn to containers and serve.
Notes
- To flavor savory popcorn, toss with salt immediately after popping.
- For sweet popcorn, sprinkle caster sugar and cinnamon or pumpkin spice after popping.
- Serve popcorn shortly after cooking to maintain crispness.
