Ingredients

Servings

For the dough:

  • 600 g ground beef
  • 300 g bread
  • 100 g Parmigiano-Reggiano grated
  • 1 egg
  • 50 g raisins
  • 50 g pine nuts
  • 1 bunch parsley
  • 1 clove garlic
  • salt as needed
  • pepper as needed

For the sauce:

  • 500 g peeled tomatoes
  • 1 onion
  • Oil and salt as needed

Instructions

  1. Start by preparing the dough. Place in a large container the bread previously soaked in water and wrung out, the beef, the finely chopped parsley, the crushed garlic, the grated cheese, the egg, salt and pepper.
  2. Knead well to mix all ingredients.
  3. Now comes the fun part which every kid enjoys. Take some of the dough and roll it in raisins and pine nuts. Give it a round and slightly flattened shape and place it on a tray. Repeat the process until there is no dough left.
  4. Now dip the balls in hot frying oil, until they become golden and crispy.
  5. Once drained, prepare a sauce with olive oil, onion and tomatoes. Place the meatballs inside the pan in which the sauce is being cooked and bring it to very low heat, until the meatballs become soft and the sauce loses its concentration.
  6. You can prepare a "light" version, by skipping the stage of frying, and cooking the meatballs directly into the tomato sauce.
