Jjapaguri

As seen in the movie Parasite, Jjapaguri is a Korean dish combining two very popular instant noodle brands, Jjapagetti or Chapagetti (짜파게티) and Neoguri (너구리).

Ingredients

  • 10 oz tender beef , (rib eye), cut into 1 inch (3 cm) cubes
  • 3 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 x 5 oz packs Jjapagetti , (Korean instant black noodles)
  • 2 x 4 oz packs Neoguri , (seafood-flavored instant Korean udon noodles)
  • 2 garlic cloves , crushed
  • 1½ cups hot water
  • salt
  • white pepper

  1. Sprinkle the beef with salt and white pepper.
  2. Boil 4 cups (1 liter) water in a large saucepan.
  3. At the same time, heat half of the oil in a large skillet over medium heat.
  4. Add the garlic and meat, and fry on all sides until almost cooked. Set aside.
  5. When the water boils, add the Jjapagetti, Neoguri and the dehydrated vegetable mixture from each package of noodles.
  6. Mix together, and continue to boil for about 3 minutes.
  7. At this point, the noodles should be al dente.
  8. Drain the noodles briefly because they should remain a little wet then transfer them to the pan with the cooked meat placed over a medium heat.
  9. Pour hot water over the noodles and add the entire packages of Jjapagetti and Neoguri sauces.
  10. Stir well for about 1 minute or until the sauce is evenly distributed and thickens slightly.
  11. Add more hot water if needed.
  12. Remove from the heat, and add the rest of the oil. Mix everything together, and serve immediately.
