Ingredients
- 1 quart skim milk [1 liter]
- 1 cup rolled oats (whole, not instant)
- 1 cup sugar (white, granulated) (you might not use all of it)
- 2 cups Ice cubes (optional)
- Juice of 3 limes
Instructions
1. Blending
- Mix the milk and oats. Blend at high speed for 3 minutes. Sieve to get rid of solids (optional). Add sugar to taste.
Cup of Yum
2. Chilling
- Chill in the freezer (it has to be very cold, or it will curdle). If you need to store for a few hours, chill in the fridge instead of the freezer. Remove from the freezer and add the ice, stir. Slowly pour the lime juice into the oatmeal mix stirring constantly.
3. Serving
- Serve immediately.
Notes
- I have tried versions of these without milk (substitute water for milk), or without lime, and the decidedly untraditional carrot one (add a piece of carrot when blending, can't say I liked it myself). Feel free to experiment.
- Use an equivalent amount of sweetener of your choice for a lighter, sugar-free version.
