Kaak Malih (كعك مالح ليبي)

Ingredients

  • ½ cup milk
  • ½ cup butter , melted
  • ½ cup vegetable oil
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 3½ cups flour
For the glazing
  • 1 egg , beaten
  • ½ cup sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Pour the milk, melted butter and oil into the bowl of a stand mixer and mix.
  2. Sift the flour, salt and baking powder into the bowl.
  3. Knead the dough until smooth.
  4. Place in a plastic bag and refrigerate for an hour.
  5. Roll into ropes of about ⅓ inch (1 cm) diameter and cut sections of about 6 inches (15 cm). Braid each sectioned rope like a single-stranded challah bread.
  6. Place on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  7. Brush with the beaten egg. Sprinkle sesame seeds.
  8. Bake at 400 F (190˚C) for around 15 minutes or until light golden.
