Katsu Sando (Pork Cutlet Sandwich)

The Katsu Sando is a Japanese-style sandwich made with fried pork cutlet (tonkatsu), milk bread, lettuce or cabbage, and a combination of whole grain mustard and tonkatsu sauce. The sandwich layers provide a contrast between the crispy pork, soft bread, tangy sauces, and crunchy greens, served freshly assembled.

Ingredients

  • 1 pork cutlet if using leftover, reheat in the oven for 10 mins until warm, fried, tonkatsu style
  • 2 lices milk bread or thick-cut sandwich bread, shokupan style
  • 1 teaspoon whole grain mustard
  • 1 tablespoon tonkatsu sauce
  • 2 leaves lettuce shredded, or cabbage

Instructions

  1. Place 2 slices of milk bread on a work surface and spread mustard on one slice and tonkatsu sauce on the other.
  2. Add the fried pork cutlet/tonkatsu to one slice of bread.
  3. Top with shredded lettuce or cabbage.
  4. Add the second slice of bread on top.
  5. Press firmly and slice the sandwich in half with a sharp knife.
  6. Serve freshly made.
