KFC Coleslaw Recipe
KFC Coleslaw Recipe features finely chopped cabbage and onion mixed with a creamy dressing made from mayonnaise, buttermilk, sugar, vinegar, and seasoning. The dressing thickens as it rests, allowing the flavors to blend and coat the crisp vegetables evenly. This coleslaw offers a balance of tangy, sweet, and savory notes with a smooth, slightly creamy texture. It is ideal as a side dish for barbecues, sandwiches, or fried foods.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup milk
- 3 tablespoons white vinegar
- 1/2 cup mayonnaise
- 1/3 cup granulated sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/8 teaspoon black pepper freshly ground
- 16 ounces coleslaw mix finely chopped (see note 1)
- 2 tablespoons onion minced
Instructions
- In a small bowl, add milk and white vinegar. Set aside to thicken at least 10 minutes.
- In a large bowl, whisk together mayonnaise, sugar, salt, pepper, and thickened milk (buttermilk).
- Add coleslaw mix and onion, then stir to combine. Cover and refrigerate at least 2 hours to blend flavors. Season to taste with salt and pepper.
Notes
- For best texture, finely chop the coleslaw mix or shred your own cabbage and carrot to about similar small pieces.
- Refrigerate the salad at least 2 hours before serving to allow flavors to develop fully.
- Store leftovers in an airtight container in the fridge; consume within 4 days although quality declines after 2 days.
- Do not leave coleslaw out at room temperature over 2 hours to avoid bacterial growth.
