Ingredients

  • 3 cups flour
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 3 sticks unsalted butter , softened
  • 1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1 2/3 cup sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cup whole milk

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Grease and flour a 10-cup bundt pan.
  3. Mix the flour, baking powder, and salt in a separate bowl.
  4. Melt 5 tablespoons of butter in the microwave, using 30 second increments until fully melted.
  5. Mix the cocoa powder into the melted butter until well combined and set aside.
  6. Using a mixer, combine the remaining softened butter with the sugar.
  7. Add the eggs and vanilla and mix well.
  8. Gradually add in the flour mixture to the batter.
  9. Add the milk into the batter.
  10. Take half of the batter and whisk it into the butter-cocoa mixture until just combined.
  11. Pour the cocoa batter into the bundt pan.
  12. Gently spoon the yellow cake batter into the bundt pan.
  13. Using a the tip of a knife swirl the batter gently for a few seconds.
  14. Bake for 70 to 80 minutes, or until a toothpick or knife comes out clean.
  15. Cool for 20 minutes, then invert onto a cake stand or plate.
