Margarita Recipe on the Rocks

This classic margarita on the rocks recipe is perfect any time, whether you're celebrating or just chilling at home. This recipe is simple, delicious, and has the perfect balance of sweetness, tang, and smooth tequila.

Ingredients

  • 2 ounces blanco tequila
  • 1 ounce orange liqueur triple sec, cointreau, grand marnier
  • 1 ounce lime juice
  • 1/2 ounce simple syrup or agave syrup
  • Optional garnishes: limes lime zest, coarse salt, tajin

Instructions

  1. Add all ingredients to a shaker filled with ice and shake.
  2. Pour over ice.

Notes

  • Always use smooth-tasting, high-quality tequila. A bad-tasting tequila will make a bad-tasting margarita. You want it to be smooth with a slightly sweet flavor. 
  • Go with fresh lime juice. While bottled lime juice might feel like a quick shortcut, it can really change the flavor. You’ll be able to really taste the difference between fresh and bottled. 
  • Go easy on the simple syrup. Adding too much simple syrup takes away from the classic taste of a margarita. 
  • Salt your glass! Even if you’re making it at home, don’t skip the salted rim. 
  • Be sure to always serve it cold. No one likes a warm margarita. Be sure you serve it chilled over ice or blend it if you prefer.
