Marinara
Marinara is a simple tomato-based sauce cooked with shallots, garlic, oregano, balsamic vinegar, and finished with fresh basil. The sauce combines sweet, tangy, and herbal notes for a balanced and versatile pasta topping or base. Soft shallots and crushed garlic gently infuse the oil before blending with tomatoes and seasonings, then simmering to meld the flavors.
Ingredients
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 4 shallot diced
- 3 garlic crushed, clove
- 800 g tomato canned, chopped
- 2 tablespoon oregano dried
- 3 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
- 1 pinch sea salt
- 1 pinch black pepper
- 5 g basil chopped, fresh
Instructions
- Add 1 tablespoon Olive oil to a large pan and add 4 Shallots and 3 Garlic clove and cook on low for 4 minutes, until the shallots have softened.
- Add 800 g Chopped tomatoes, 3 tablespoon Balsamic vinegar, 2 tablespoon Dried oregano and 1 pinch Sea salt and ground black pepper and mix well.
- Simmer for 10 minutes and then stir in 5 g Fresh basil before serving.
Notes
- Add a pinch of sugar to sweeten the sauce if desired.
- Roasted or grated bell peppers, carrot, or courgette can be blended into the sauce for added vegetables.
- Stirring in butter before serving makes the sauce richer and creamier.
- Blend the sauce for a smooth texture if preferred over chunky.
