Marinara

Report
Marinara is a simple tomato-based sauce cooked with shallots, garlic, oregano, balsamic vinegar, and finished with fresh basil. The sauce combines sweet, tangy, and herbal notes for a balanced and versatile pasta topping or base. Soft shallots and crushed garlic gently infuse the oil before blending with tomatoes and seasonings, then simmering to meld the flavors.

Description

This Marinara recipe begins by lightly sautéing diced shallots and crushed garlic in olive oil until softened but not browned, developing a fragrant base. Adding canned chopped tomatoes, dried oregano, balsamic vinegar, sea salt, and black pepper creates a richly flavored tomato mixture. Simmering the sauce for about 10 minutes reduces it slightly and concentrates flavors.

Adding fresh chopped basil just before serving lifts the sauce with a burst of herbal brightness. This marinara works well with pasta, as a pizza sauce, or as a dip. Variations include adding sugar for sweetness, pureeing for smoothness, or incorporating grated vegetables for extra nutrition and texture.
