Marinated Feta
Marinated Feta features blocks of creamy Greek feta soaked in extra virgin olive oil infused with jalapeño, dried chilies, oregano, parsley, and lemon zest. This melding enhances the salty, tangy cheese with herbal, spicy, and citrus notes. Served at room temperature, the feta pairs nicely with toasted bread or pita, offering a flavorful appetizer or snack.
Ingredients
- 8 ounces feta cheese creamy, in the brine
- extra virgin olive oil
- 1 jalapeno pepper thinly sliced
- 3 to 4 dried chilies
- 1 to 2 teaspoon oregano dried
- 2 to 3 tablespoons parsley chopped
- lemon zest of 1
Instructions
- Slice the feta into thick cubes and place them in a mason jar.
- In a small bowl, combine ½ cup extra virgin olive oil with the jalapeño, dry chiles, oregano, parsley and lemon zest.
- Pour the olive oil mixture over the feta. If needed, pour more olive oil to cover the feta by at least 1/2 inch.
- For best flavor, cover the lid tightly and store in the fridge for 1 day before using.
- Bring to room temperature before serving with toasted bread or pita chips.
Notes
- Use block-style Greek feta kept in brine for best texture; avoid crumbly dry varieties.
- Choose a flavorful extra virgin olive oil with some peppery notes for the marinade.
- Store marinated feta in an airtight jar in the fridge, ensuring cheese is always covered with oil; it keeps for 2 to 3 weeks.
- Save leftover flavored olive oil for use in salad dressings or marinades.
