Matcha Affogato
Matcha Affogato combines thick, whisked ceremonial matcha poured over vanilla or matcha ice cream. The serving temperature contrast between warm, slightly bitter matcha and cold, creamy ice cream creates a unique texture blend. The preparation highlights the sweetness and creaminess of the ice cream alongside the rich, vegetal flavors of quality matcha.
Ingredients
- 2-3 tablespoon water cooled to 80°C/176°F, boiled, hot
- 2 coops vanilla ice cream or matcha ice cream
- 1 ½ teaspoon matcha sifted, ceremonial
Instructions
- Boil water and let it cool to 80°C/176°F.
- Add the sifted matcha powder to a small bowl and carefully pour the water over it. (Add a little water at a time so you can control how thick you want the koicha).
- Whisk the mixture with a bamboo chasen until you obtain a pourable, but thick matcha.
- Add scoops of ice cream into a serving vessel.
- Pour the matcha (koicha) over top of the ice cream and serve immediately.
