Ingredients

  • 1 egg large
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil neutral
  • 2 tablespoon granulated sugar
  • 1 C buttermilk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 tablespoon matcha sifted, ceremonial
  • ¼ teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • ⅛ salt sea salt
  • 1 C all-purpose flour
  • 1 Tbsp potato starch

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, whisk together the egg, oil, sugar, buttermilk and vanilla extract.
  2. Sift in the matcha powder, baking soda, baking powder and sea salt.
  3. Add in the all-purpose flour and potato starch and fold until just combined. (Be careful not to overmix).
  4. Preheat a waffle iron to medium heat.
  5. Ladle in about 1 C of batter into the waffle iron, close it and cook for about 4-5 minutes, until lightly golden and crisp.
  6. Remove the waffle and let cool on a cooling rack.

Notes

  • This recipe yields about two large round Belgian waffles.
