Meat Sauce Recipe

Rich and delicious meat sauce to use with your favorite pasta dishes as well as topped on spiraled vegetables for a low carb meal.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 pound Italian sausage sweet
  • 1/3 cup diced onion
  • 5 cloves garlic minced
  • 2 teaspoons Italian seasoning
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground pepper
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 bay leaf whole
  • 1 teaspoon fennel seeds
  • 1 28 oz. crushed tomatoes
  • 2 6 oz. tomato paste
  • 1/2 cup white wine

Instructions

  1. In a large saucepan add one tablespoon of avocado or olive oil and heat over medium-high heat.
  2. Add sausage and ground beef and break into small chunks with a spoon. Continue to break down the meat as it cooks into the size you desire.
  3. Drain meat if there is extra water or fat.
  4. Add diced onion, garlic, Italian seasoning and fennel seeds and stir for 1 minute. Season with salt and pepper.
  5. Add crushed tomatoes, tomato paste and wine (or broth). Stir until the ingredients and well combined.
  6. Reduce heat to a simmer and cook for 60 minutes.

Notes

  • Broth may be a substitute for the wine if preferred.
