Mint Water
Mint Water is a refreshing flavored water infused with mint leaves steeped in boiling water, then cooled and combined with cold water and fresh mint. This creates a light, aromatic drink ideal for hydration with a subtle herbal taste. The preparation involves steeping part of the mint leaves in hot water to release flavor, then mixing with additional fresh leaves and cold water, allowing the flavors to meld. It's best served chilled and consumed within a few days for freshness.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup mint loosely packed, divided, leaves
- 1 cup water boiling
- 7 cups water cold
Instructions
- Wash the mint leaves and remove any brown or damaged leaves.
- Boil 1 cup of water. Add the 1/4 cup mint leaves to the boiling water. Let the mixture sit for at least 15 minutes. Then add ice to the mixture to cool it down.
- Strain the mint leaves from the boiling water mixture or pour the water into a large pitcher.
- Add the remaining mint leaves to a large pitcher. Then add in the cold water. Refrigerate for at least an hour before serving. You can use us a wooden spoon to slightly mash the mint leaves against the sides of the pitcher to release the juices from the them.
- This mint water is best served the same day but you can also refrigerate the water for up to 3 days.
Notes
- Mint water is most refreshing when served the same day it’s made; refrigerate if storing up to 3 days.
- Optionally add slices of lemon or lime or use sparkling water for a variation in flavor.
- Gently bruising the fresh mint leaves in the pitcher helps release oils for stronger aroma and taste.
