Mint Water
Description
Mint Water infuses potable water with the clean, herbaceous notes of mint leaves for a cooling beverage. The method starts by steeping a portion of the mint in boiling water which extracts essential oils and flavor compounds. After sufficient steeping, the mixture is cooled, strained to remove leaves, then combined with fresh mint leaves and cold water to further mellow and refresh the infusion. This multi-step method enhances the depth of mint flavor while preserving a crisp texture. As the drink rests refrigerated for at least an hour, the fresh leaves release additional fragrance and taste without overpowering bitterness.
The resulting beverage is lightly flavored and crisp, providing a subtle aromatic lift typical of mint without added sugar or other flavorings. It can act as a pleasant alternative to plain water, useful for hydration on warm days or alongside meals needing a light palate cleanser. Adding lemon, lime, or sparkling water can be done optionally to modify the flavor profile, according to taste.
This mint water is best served chilled the same day it is prepared to retain freshness of the leaves and brightness of flavor. When properly refrigerated, it can remain suitable for drinking up to three days. Care is taken not to oversteep the mint or allow it to wilt excessively as it may develop a bitter taste over time.
