Ninja Air Fryer Dehydrated Bananas
This recipe makes dehydrated banana chips using a Ninja air fryer. Banana slices are soaked in a lemon juice and water mixture to prevent browning and then sprinkled with cinnamon for added warmth. The slices are dehydrated at a low temperature for several hours until chewy and leathery, providing a naturally sweet snack with subtle spice. This home method uses an air fryer as a dehydrator alternative to prepare banana chips without frying or added sugars.
Ingredients
- 5-7 medium-sized banana
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon (use more or less as preferred)
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon water
Instructions
- Peel and slice the bananas into ¼ inch thick slices.
- Make a pretreatment solution by combining a tablespoon of lemon juice with an equal amount of water in a bowl. Transfer the bananas to the bowl with the pretreatment solution, combine and allow to soak for 5 minutes.
- Lay the sliced bananas in a single layer on the dehydrator rack (you can lightly brush the racks with cooking oil to prevent sticking) then sprinkle cinnamon on top of the bananas. Once all the racks are full, place them inside the air fryer, close the lid, and set the temperature to 135°F (57.2°C).
- Dehydrate the banana chips for 6 to 12 hours. Rotate the dehydrator rack every 3 to 4 hours, moving the bottom trays to the top. Also, check whether the bananas are dry enough. Continue this process until all the bananas are dry enough and chewy or leathery.
- Once done, remove the rack from the air fryer and transfer the air fryer dehydrated bananas to a plate or tray to cool. Allow the chips to cool completely then store in an airtight container or serve.
