Ninja Air Fryer Dehydrated Bananas
Description
The Ninja Air Fryer Dehydrated Bananas recipe transforms fresh bananas into chewy, cinnamon-scented banana chips. After peeling and slicing the bananas thinly, they are soaked in a lemon juice and water mixture. This pretreatment slows enzymatic browning, keeping the chips from discoloring during drying. A light dusting of cinnamon provides mild warmth and flavor.
The banana slices are arranged in a single layer on dehydrator racks inside an air fryer set to a low temperature. Over 6 to 12 hours, the bananas slowly dry out, becoming leathery and chewy without frying or added sweeteners. The process requires occasional rotation of racks for even dehydration and careful monitoring for desired dryness.
These banana chips are a shelf-stable natural snack that carries the fruit's sweetness with a hint of spice. Cooling them fully after drying ensures the right texture and prevents condensation.
Ingredients
- 5-7 medium-sized banana
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon (use more or less as preferred)
- 1 tablespoon lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon water
Instructions
- Peel and slice the bananas into ¼ inch thick slices.
- Make a pretreatment solution by combining a tablespoon of lemon juice with an equal amount of water in a bowl. Transfer the bananas to the bowl with the pretreatment solution, combine and allow to soak for 5 minutes.
- Lay the sliced bananas in a single layer on the dehydrator rack (you can lightly brush the racks with cooking oil to prevent sticking) then sprinkle cinnamon on top of the bananas. Once all the racks are full, place them inside the air fryer, close the lid, and set the temperature to 135°F (57.2°C).
- Dehydrate the banana chips for 6 to 12 hours. Rotate the dehydrator rack every 3 to 4 hours, moving the bottom trays to the top. Also, check whether the bananas are dry enough. Continue this process until all the bananas are dry enough and chewy or leathery.
- Once done, remove the rack from the air fryer and transfer the air fryer dehydrated bananas to a plate or tray to cool. Allow the chips to cool completely then store in an airtight container or serve.
