  • 2 large egg yolks
  • 1 ¼ cup half and half or light cream
  • 1 ½ tablespoons light brown sugar
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • 2 ½ teaspoons cinnamon divided
  • 2 loaves brioche bread 16 ounces each, approximately 16 1-inch slices
  • 1 cup Nutella
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 8 tablespoons melted butter
  • chocolate sauce and whipped cream for serving, optional

Instructions

    Cup of Yum
  1. Preheat griddle to 275°F. Combine sugar and 2 teaspoons of cinnamon. Set aside.
  2. Whisk eggs, egg yolks, half & half, light brown sugar, salt, and ½ teaspoon of cinnamon in a large bowl. Set aside.
  3. Use a small knife to cut a slit in the top & at the bottom of each slice of bread.
  4. Fill a piping bag with Nutella and carefully pipe approximately 1 tablespoon of Nutella into each slice of bread.
  5. Dip bread slices into the egg mixture. Place on the preheated grilled and cook 2-3 minutes per side or until golden brown.
  6. Once French toast is cooked, brush with melted butter and toss in the prepared cinnamon sugar mixture.
  7. Serve warm with whipped cream and chocolate sauce if desired.

Notes

  • MAKE AHEAD Make the egg mixture in advance and keep it in a tightly covered container in the refrigerator for up 48 hours. Bread can be sliced and filled 48 hours ahead of time and refrigerated.
  • No pastry piping bags? No problem! Scoop the Nutella (or another filling) into a plastic sandwich bag and snip off a small corner on one side.
  • To half this recipe, use 2 eggs and 1 egg yolk. The rest of the ingredients will also be halved.
  • Place a baking sheet in the oven and heat to 175°F. Place cooked French toast on the pan to keep warm while making other batches.
