Ingredients
- 3 large eggs
- 2 large egg yolks
- 1 ¼ cup half and half or light cream
- 1 ½ tablespoons light brown sugar
- ½ teaspoon salt
- 2 ½ teaspoons cinnamon divided
- 2 loaves brioche bread 16 ounces each, approximately 16 1-inch slices
- 1 cup Nutella
- ¾ cup granulated sugar
- 8 tablespoons melted butter
- chocolate sauce and whipped cream for serving, optional
Instructions
- Preheat griddle to 275°F. Combine sugar and 2 teaspoons of cinnamon. Set aside.
- Whisk eggs, egg yolks, half & half, light brown sugar, salt, and ½ teaspoon of cinnamon in a large bowl. Set aside.
- Use a small knife to cut a slit in the top & at the bottom of each slice of bread.
- Fill a piping bag with Nutella and carefully pipe approximately 1 tablespoon of Nutella into each slice of bread.
- Dip bread slices into the egg mixture. Place on the preheated grilled and cook 2-3 minutes per side or until golden brown.
- Once French toast is cooked, brush with melted butter and toss in the prepared cinnamon sugar mixture.
- Serve warm with whipped cream and chocolate sauce if desired.
Notes
- MAKE AHEAD Make the egg mixture in advance and keep it in a tightly covered container in the refrigerator for up 48 hours. Bread can be sliced and filled 48 hours ahead of time and refrigerated.
- No pastry piping bags? No problem! Scoop the Nutella (or another filling) into a plastic sandwich bag and snip off a small corner on one side.
- To half this recipe, use 2 eggs and 1 egg yolk. The rest of the ingredients will also be halved.
- Place a baking sheet in the oven and heat to 175°F. Place cooked French toast on the pan to keep warm while making other batches.
