Ingredients

  • 36 Oreos do not remove the cream filling
  • 8 ounces cream cheese
  • 16 ounces White or Dark Chocolate or a combination of both

Instructions

    Cup of Yum
  1. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Place Oreos in a large food processor and pulse until they turn into fine crumbs. Remove 2-3 tablespoons for decorating truffles later, if desired.
  3. Add the softened cream cheese to the Oreos and pulse until combined.
  4. Use a small cookie scoop or tablespoon to scoop out evenly sized balls of dough. Roll each ball between the palms of your hands so they are smooth and round. Chill in the freezer for 20 minutes.
  5. Melt the chocolate wafers in a microwave-safe bowl according to package directions using short 20-second bursts of heat and stirring between intervals until melted.
  6. Dip one truffle at a time into the melted chocolate. I find it works best to roll them around then lift out with a fork and use a spoon to spoon additional melted chocolate over the top for a smoother finish. Use a sharp knife or a toothpick to slide the truffle onto the prepared baking sheet.
  7. Immediately sprinkle with some of the reserved Oreo crumbs, if desired. Otherwise continue to dip remaining Oreo balls in the melted chocolate. Because the balls have been chilled, the temperature of the melted chocolate will drop and you may need to reheat in the microwave partway through.
  8. Once all of the balls have been dipped in the chocolate, you can reheat any remaining chocolate and transfer to a ziploc bag bag. Snip off one corner and drizzle the remaining chocolate over each Oreo ball for decoration.
  9. Transfer the balls to the fridge to finish setting up. Store in the fridge for 2-3 weeks or freeze for up to 4 months.

Notes

  • Peppermint Oreo Balls: A fun twist on the classic, all you have to do is mix in 1 teaspoon of peppermint extract with the cream cheese to make Peppermint Oreo Balls. I like to sprinkle crushed candy canes on top to show the flavor inside.
  • Variation: Use Golden Oreos and colorful sprinkles for other holidays, birthdays, or other celebrations.
