Oven-Baked Sesame Fries
Oven-Baked Sesame Fries are wedges of russet or Yukon gold potatoes coated with oil, sesame seeds, and optional potato starch for crispness. Baking at a high temperature creates golden, crispy outsides while keeping the wedges tender inside. A seasoning mix including salt, pepper, and optional nutritional yeast adds flavor complexity. The sesame seeds add a nutty texture contrast, making these fries a distinctive oven-baked snack or side.
Ingredients
- 1 pound russet potato unpeeled, cut into wedges, or Yukon gold potatoes
- 1 Tablespoon oil avocado, grape seed, sunflower, etc, medium-high heat
- 2 Tablespoons sesame seeds
- 1 Tablespoon potato starch optional, but makes fries extra crispy
- 1 Tablespoon nutritional yeast optional
- salt to taste, generous pinch
- black pepper to taste
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 425 degrees F. Lightly oil metal baking sheet, or cover with parchment paper. Toss potatoes in all ingredients until coated, if seeds don't stick, drizzle with a bit more oil.
- Spread potatoes on the baking sheet in an even layer (the more room between the wedges the better) and bake for 20 to 25 minutes, flipping once halfway through, until potatoes are golden brown and crispy. Serve immediately with condiments of choice.
Notes
- Cut potato wedges to uniform size to ensure even baking.
- If sesame seeds do not adhere well, add a little more oil but not so much that potatoes become soggy.
- Arrange wedges evenly spaced on the pan to allow air circulation and promote crispness; bake in batches if necessary.
- Check doneness by piercing the thickest part with a toothpick; it should pass through easily.
- Let fries rest a few minutes on the pan before transferring to a serving plate.
- Enhance flavor by adding herbs or spices like paprika, chili powder, garlic powder, or parsley.
