Pan Fried Nian Gao (New Year Cake) 傳統香煎年糕

Our family's traditional Pan Fried Nian Gao Recipe (Chinese New Year Cake) made with our little secret ingredient. Sweet & gooey rice cake with a crisp layer of fragrant egg.

Ingredients

  • 1 whole nian gao (Chinese New Year Cake) , sliced
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil or peanut oil
Egg Mixture:
  • 2 large eggs
  • ¼ teaspoon salt

Instructions

  1. Create Egg Mixture: Mix 2 eggs and ¼ tsp salt together in a small bowl.
  2. Pan Fry Nian Gao: Heat pan over medium heat. Add 1 tbsp of coconut oil or peanut oil onto the pan. Dip nian gao slices into the egg mixture. Pan-fry each side for 1 - 2 minutes until golden brown. Optional: Double dip the nian gao slices into the Egg Mixture and pan-fry each side for another minute for more "eggy" taste.
  3. Serve Pan-Fried Nian Gao: Absorb the oil on the Pan Fried Nian Gao with a paper towel to keep the outer layer nice & crisp. Enjoy the hot fragrant sweet sticky rice cake - nian gao with a cup of tea.
