Ingredients

  • 1 cup of warm water
  • 1 tablespoon active dry yeast
  • 1 tablespoon honey
  • 2 tablespoons oil
  • 1 pinch of kosher salt
  • 3½ cups all-purpose flour
  • 6 tablespoons butter melted
  • ¾ teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon dried parsley
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1½ tablespoons shredded Parmesan

Instructions

    Cup of Yum
  1. Add the warm water, yeast, and honey to a stand mixer bowl. Let it sit for about 5 minutes until it is nice and foamy.
  2. Once it's foamy, add in the oil and pinch of salt. Mix to combine. Add in 2 cups of flour and mix with the dough hook. Once it's combined, add in another cup of flour. Once that is combined, add in flour 1 tablespoon at a time until the dough is no longer sticky. Don't use more than ½ cup additional flour.
  3. Continue using the dough hook and knead the bread in the mixer for about 3 minutes or until it's smooth.
  4. Place your dough on an oiled baking sheet and shape it into a rectangle (it doesn't need to be perfect).
  5. Using a pizza cutter, score the dough into the breadstick shapes you would like. You don't need to go completely through the dough to the baking sheet, but you'll want to go most of the way.
  6. Place a kitchen towel over the dough and place the baking sheet in a warm place to rise for about 30 minutes.
  7. Preheat the oven to 450°F.
  8. Once the dough has risen, combine the 4 tablespoons of melted butter, garlic powder, parmesan, oregano, and parsley.
  9. Brush the dough with the butter mixture.
  10. Bake in the oven for 8-10 minutes, just until cooked through.
  11. Remove the breadsticks from the oven and brush with the remaining melted butter and sprinkle with additional coarse kosher salt if desired!

Notes

  • When you add the yeast to the warm water it should foam. If it doesn't foam, it means your yeast is not good any longer. You'll need to start over with new yeast.
  • Scoring the breadsticks isn't required, it just makes them easier to pull apart.
  • You can use a silicone baking mat in place of oil on the baking sheet if you prefer.
