Description
This Perfect Iced Coffee offers a smooth, mildly sweetened coffee experience enhanced by a homemade vanilla simple syrup and adjustable creaminess from half and half. The syrup is made by dissolving sugar in water over heat, then cooled and blended with vanilla extract for subtle aromatic sweetness.
Room temperature coffee is essential to prevent dilution from melting ice when poured over it. Adding half and half softens the coffee's edge and adds richness, while the syrup adds sweetness incrementally to taste.
The combination can be quickly assembled and is a great alternative to hot coffee on warm days or when a cold caffeinated beverage is desired. Milk or cream may be used instead of half and half based on preference, providing further customization.
Ingredients
- 1 cup coffee at room temperature
- 2 tablespoons half and half or more, to taste
For the simple syrup
- ½ cup sugar
- 1 cup water
- ½ teaspoon vanilla extract
Instructions
- FOR THE SIMPLE SYRUP: Combine sugar and 1 cup water in a medium saucepan over medium heat, stirring until the sugar has dissolved. Let cool completely and stir in vanilla extract; set aside in the refrigerator until ready to serve.
