Pesto Popcorn Recipe

This Pesto Popcorn recipe transforms simple popcorn kernels with a drizzle of vibrant pesto and a sprinkle of grated Parmesan cheese, resulting in a snack that balances savory and herbal flavors. The method uses neutral cooking oil to pop the kernels evenly before tossing with the pesto and cheese for an aromatic coating. The light salt finish enhances the overall taste, making it an appealing choice for a flavorful, unconventional snack or party treat.

Description

Pesto Popcorn Recipe brings together basic popcorn ingredients with a twist of fresh pesto and Parmesan cheese. It starts by heating a neutral oil and popping the kernels in a pot until fully expanded. Once popped, the popcorn is transferred to a bowl and drizzled with pesto, which adds a fresh basil and garlic flavor. The grated Parmesan contributes a salty, umami richness that complements the herbaceous pesto. A sprinkle of sea salt balances the flavors to taste. This popcorn offers a crunchy texture punctuated by the creamy herbal coating of pesto and the sharpness of Parmesan cheese, making it suitable for snacking while watching a movie or as a light party nibble.

Ingredients

Servings
  • 2 tablespoons neutral cooking oil generic cooking oil
  • ½ cup popcorn kernels
  • 2 tablespoons pesto
  • 2 ounces Parmesan Cheese grated
  • salt to taste, sea salt

Instructions

  1. Heat the oil in a pot over medium-high heat. Add 2-3 popcorn kernels and cover the pot.
  2. When you hear the first popcorn kernel pop, add the rest of the kernels and put the lid back onto the pot. Once the popcorn starts popping, gently shake the pot back and forth on the element - this helps prevent the popcorn from burning. When the popcorn stops popping, immediately remove the pot from the heat and pour the popcorn into a large bowl.
  3. Drizzle the pesto over the popcorn, add the parmesan cheese, a sprinkle of salt, and toss to coat.
