Pigs in a Blanket

Pigs in a Blanket features mini hot dogs wrapped in strips of crescent roll dough, optionally filled with American cheese, then baked until golden and flaky. The crescent dough forms a soft, buttery exterior around the savory sausage. This finger food is best served warm or room temperature, making it a popular snack or appetizer with ketchup and mustard on the side. It also freezes well uncooked for convenience.

Ingredients

  • 28 ounce mini hot dogs cocktail franks or "Lil Smokies"
  • 2 crescent rolls packages
  • American cheese optional, sliced

Instructions

    Cup of Yum
  1. Preheat oven to 400 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a silicone baking sheet.
  2. Unroll the crescent rolls, separate the triangles, and then using a pastry cutter or pizza cutter, slice each triangle into three strips.
  3. If you are using cheese, cut a slit into the center of a mini hot dog and place a small piece of cheese into the slit.
  4. Place a mini hot dog on the wide end of the strip and roll up. Place point-side-down on the prepared baking sheet and repeat with the rest of the crescent rolls (you may have leftover mini hot dogs).
  5. Bake for 15 to 20 minutes, or until golden brown. Serve plain or with ketchup and mustard on the side. These are best served warm or at room temperature the day they are made, but leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator in an airtight container for up to 3 days.

Notes

  • Use regular hot dogs and full crescent roll triangles to make full-size pigs in a blanket.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to three days to maintain freshness.
  • To freeze, assemble pigs in a blanket on a baking sheet, freeze until firm, then transfer to freezer-safe containers for up to three months.
  • Bake from frozen at 400°F for about 25 minutes until golden and crispy.
  • Reheat baked leftovers at 350°F for 8 to 10 minutes before serving.
