Pillsbury Monkey Bread
Description
This recipe starts with refrigerated biscuit dough cut into quarters and coated thoroughly in a cinnamon and granulated sugar mixture. The sugared dough pieces are layered into a bundt pan coated with baking spray. A mixture of melted butter and packed brown sugar is poured over the dough pieces before baking, which melts during cooking to create a caramelized sauce that envelops the biscuit pieces.
Baking at 350°F for 35 to 45 minutes produces a monkey bread with a golden-brown crust and soft interior. Once baked, it is important to let the bread cool slightly before turning it out of the pan to avoid sticking and ensure the bread holds its shape. The sticky, sweet bread is served warm and is often enjoyed as a breakfast treat or dessert.
This recipe can also be baked successfully in loaf pans and does not require using Pillsbury brand biscuits specifically, allowing flexibility based on available refrigerated biscuit dough.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tsp ground cinnamon
- 2 oz cans Biscuits unbaked, refrigerated
- 3/4 cup brown sugar packed
- 1/2 cup butter melted or margarine
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350 F. Coat the inside of a 12 cup bundt pan with baking spray.
- In a gallon sized plastic bag, combine the granulated sugar with the cinnamon. Separate the dough into biscuits. Cut each biscuit into quarters. Add the quartered biscuits to the bag with the cinnamon sugar. Shake to coat biscuits in the cinnamon sugar.
- Layer the biscuits into the prepared baking pan. Combine the melted butter and brown sugar in a separate bowl. Pour mixture over the biscuits.
- Bake for 35 - 45 minutes or until the top of the monkey bread is golden brown. Remove and let cool in the pan for 5 minutes. Turn the bread out of the bundt pan onto a heat proof plate. Serve warm.
Notes
- Any brand of refrigerated biscuits can be used; Pillsbury is not mandatory.
- Remove the monkey bread from the pan before it fully cools to prevent it from sticking.
- The recipe can be baked in two 9 x 5 loaf pans as an alternative to a bundt pan.
