Ingredients
- 1 cup polenta , or medium yellow cornmeal
- 5 cups water
- 2 tablespoons butter (optional)
- salt (to taste)
Instructions
- In a large saucepan, bring the water to a boil.
- Once boiled, gradually pour the polenta into the hot water while whisking to avoid lumps.
- Stir the polenta constantly until it begins to thicken, then reduce the heat to its lowest setting.
- Cook over low heat for at least 40 minutes or until the polenta begins to pull away from the side of the pan, stirring occasionally with a wooden spoon.
- Add butter (optional) and salt (to taste) and stir until melted and incorporated.
- Serve immediately.
