Poppy Seed Buns
Description
Poppy Seed Buns consist of a well-balanced pastry dough rolled out flat, filled centrally with a prepared poppy seed filling, and sealed at both ends. The dough is then shaped into spirals and placed close together on a baking sheet, allowing them to rise about an hour until fluffy. Prior to baking, an egg wash mixed with sugar is applied to develop a shiny, sweet crust. Baking at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for approximately 30 minutes yields buns that are golden and fully cooked. The result is a tender bun with a soft crumb and a distinctive but mild poppy seed filling wrapped inside. These buns serve well as a snack or breakfast pastry without being overly sweet.
Ingredients
- 1 poppy seed filling
- 1 pastry dough perfect
- 1 egg
- 1 tbsp sugar
Instructions
- Roll out the dough into a long, flat piece. Place the prepared poppy seeds into the center of the piece.
- Seal both ends of the dough, keeping the poppy seeds on the inside. Roll the dough into a spiral shape. Place buns next to each other on a lined baking sheet.
- Let buns rise for about an hour. Using a small bowl, whisk eggs with sugar. Glaze each bun using an egg mixture.
- Bake in a preheated oven, at 350 °F, for about 30 minutes or until golden brown.
