For protein hot chocolate mix (makes about 1 pound or 6 mugs):
  • 6 coops chocolate protein powder see notes for more protein options
  • ¾ cup cocoa powder
  • ½ to 1 to 1 cup sugar substitute (if using unflavored protein) or to taste, see notes
  • ⅛ teaspoon baking soda
  • ⅛ teaspoon salt sea salt
  • 6 tablespoons dark chocolate chips optional

Instructions

Single serving (one mug)
    Cup of Yum
  1. Add in a large mug 1 scoop chocolate protein powder, 1 1/2 tablespoons cocoa powder,1 pinch baking soda and 1 pinch sea salt.
  2. Add 2 tablespoons low-carb milk cold or at room temperature (not hot) and mix well, making a thick paste free of lumps. If needed, add a tiny bit more milk, just enough to form a paste.
  3. Heat the remaining 3/4 cup low-carb milk until it's steaming but not boiling. Gradually pour it into the dissolved protein hot chocolate powder, stirring continuously until fully incorporated. Enjoy!
Protein hot chocolate mix
  1. Put all ingredients in a food processor and pulse a few times to mix. Alternatively, add all ingredients to fill up to two thirds of an airtight container, and vigorously shake for a minute or two until completely mixed.
  2. To prepare the protein hot chocolate from the mix, add 4 to 5 tablespoons of the mix into a mug, and follow steps 2 and 3 of the single serving preparation instructions above.

Notes

  • Add sweetener to taste if using unflavored protein powder; flavored powders may not need extra sweetening.
  • Include xanthan gum for creamier texture when using unflavored whey protein.
  • Adjust cocoa amount if using non-chocolate protein powders to enhance chocolate flavor.
  • Heat gently after preparation if needed; this won't curdle the protein.
  • Optional toppings like sugar-free marshmallows or whipped cream can enrich the beverage.
