  • 3 tablespoon water

  • Black salt to taste
  • 1 teaspoon spice mix powder
  • 2 teaspoon chopped coriander leaves
  • ½ teaspoon chopped green chili

Instructions

Making the Spice Mix Powder
    Cup of Yum
  1. Heat a pan and dry roast cumin seeds, coriander seeds, black pepper, and dried red chili(non-spicy) for a minute or until you get a nice aroma.
  2. Once done transfer the spices to a plate to stop the roasting process. Let them slightly cool down.
  3. Then grind or crush them to make a powder and set aside.
Making Tamarind Water
  1. Mash and squeeze the tamarind and water to make a thick liquid. Then strain the juice and set aside.
Making Aloo Chaat
  1. Slice the potatoes in a bowl.
  2. Add tamarind water, followed by spice mix powder, black salt, chopped coriander, and green chili.
  3. Gently mix without breaking the potato slices. If required, sprinkle a tablespoon water but not more. Then check the seasoning.
  4. Then serve.

Notes

  • The potatoes should not be over boiled or they will easily break apart and become mushy.
  • The tamarind water should not be thin.
  • Adjust the heat as per your tolerance.
  • The quantities of tamarind water and spice can be increased or reduced as per the taste buds.
  • All the ingredients can be prepared in advance and assemble the chaat just before serving.
  • It can be consumed on vrat or upvaas as well.
