Quick & Easy Air Fryer Homemade Croutons
These homemade croutons are made by coating bite-sized bread pieces with a seasoned butter mixture, then air frying at high heat to achieve a crisp, flavorful toast. Herbs, onion powder, seasoned salt, and garlic salt add savory depth, while choosing denser bread helps create sturdy croutons perfect for salads or soups.
Ingredients
- 2 tablespoons butter melted
- 1 teaspoon parsley
- 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
- 1/2 teaspoon seasoned salt
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
- 4 lices bread cut into bite-sized pieces
Instructions
- Preheat the air fryer to 390°F.
- In a medium-sized bowl, combine the butter, parsley, onion powder, seasoned salt, and garlic salt. Stir well.
- Add the bread to the bowl and carefully stir to coat the bread with the seasoned butter.
- Place buttered bread into the air fryer basket and cook for 5 to 7 minutes, or until the bread is toasted. Serve immediately.
Notes
- Use denser breads like sourdough for sturdier croutons; softer breads yield lighter, crispier results.
- Slightly stale bread often produces better croutons by absorbing less butter and crisping evenly.
- Cut bread cubes uniformly to ensure even cooking in the air fryer.
- Arrange bread in a single layer with space between pieces for optimal air circulation.
- Butter provides rich flavor, but olive or avocado oil can be used for dairy-free substitutions.
- If browning occurs too quickly, reduce temperature to 325°F and cook longer.
- Check croutons frequently the first time you make them since air fryer models vary.
- Allow croutons to cool completely, as they will continue to crisp outside the air fryer.
