Red Chili Tomatillo Salsa (Salsa de Arbol Y Tomatillo) is a spicy Mexican sauce with roasted tomatillos, onion, garlic and chiles de arbol. This recipe is better than Chipotle hot sauce!

Ingredients

  • 1 lb tomatillos peeled and husks removed
  • 1/2 large white onion
  • 3 cloves garlic
  • 8 dried chiles de arbol
  • 1/2 tsp kosher salt

Instructions

  1. Put the cut onion and tomatillos in a dry skillet over medium heat and toast for 3 minutes, turning once. Add the garlic cloves and chiles, continue toasting for another 12-15 minutes until all are lightly charred, turning often to get all sides.
  2. Transfer the onion, tomatillos, garlic and chiles to a food processor or blender and process until smooth. Add a little water to thin out and add salt to taste.
  3. Serve as a salsa dip with tortilla chips, over grilled meat, fish or chicken and tacos.
