Refried Black Beans

These homemade refried black beans are simple and easy to make and so versatile! Serve as a dip, on tacos, burritos or nachos or as a side to any dish!

Ingredients

  • 30 ounces black beans drained, canned, 2 cans
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 1/2 teaspoon cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt fine sea salt
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 2 tablespoons queso fresco , crumbled
  • jalapeño for garnish, slices

Instructions

  1. Heat vegetable oil in a heavy bottom skillet over medium-high heat.
  2. Add garlic, cumin and sea salt. Saute for 2 minutes, or until garlic is soft.
  3. Add black beans with 1/4 cup water. Bring to a low simmer for 10-15 minutes, or until beans are soft.
  4. Using a potato masher, mash beans until the desired texture.
  5. Top with crumbled queso fresco and jalapeno slices.
