Description
This recipe requires drained, rinsed, and thoroughly dried chickpeas to ensure they roast crisp rather than steam. Coating them evenly with olive oil and a preferred seasoning blend allows the flavors to infuse during roasting. Baking at 400°F for 30 to 40 minutes, shaking the pan halfway through, ensures even roasting and crunch development.
The resulting chickpeas have a toasted, crispy exterior with a nutty flavor enhanced by seasonings. They are best consumed soon after roasting to enjoy maximum crispiness. Leftovers can be stored but may lose some texture.
Seasoning variations are encouraged, from spicy to sweet or herbaceous blends, adapting the snack to personal preference. Extra chickpeas can be saved as a crunchy topping alternative to croutons for salads or soups, adding protein and texture.
Ingredients
- 400 g chickpeas drained, rinsed and dried
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 tablespoon seasoning blend
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 200°C/180°C(fan)/400°F/Gas 6
- Drain and rinse 400 g Chickpeas and dry them with a paper towel or dish towel. Put into a bowl with 1 tablespoon Olive oil and 1 tablespoon Seasoning blend.
- Mix well so that all the chickpeas are coated.
- Spread out on a baking tray and put into the oven for 30-40 minutes (shaking half way through), until crispy.
- Take out of the oven and leave to cool before serving.
Notes
- Make sure to dry chickpeas well after rinsing to achieve maximum crispiness during roasting.
- For best texture, enjoy roasted chickpeas soon after baking as crispiness diminishes over time.
- Experiment with different seasoning blends to customize flavors from spicy to sweet or savory.
