Roasted Shishito Peppers with Soy Glaze

These Roasted Shishito Peppers with Soy Glaze are the perfect blend of sweet, spicy and savory. Each pepper is charred under the broiler, then tossed in an easy soy-based glaze, sesame seeds and a little bit of orange peel. The perfect snack!

Ingredients

  • 6 oz shishito peppers
  • 2 tsp canola oil
  • 2 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 small garlic clove, grated
  • 1 tsp brown sugar
  • 1/2 tsp sesame oil
  • 1/2 tsp cornstarch
  • 2 tbsp water
  • 1/2 tsp orange peel
  • 1/4 tsp black sesame seeds
  • 1/4 tsp sesame seeds

  1. Preheat oven to broiler. 
  2. Toss peppers with canola oil. Spread on a large baking sheet. Broil until slightly blistered, flipping once. About 5-6 minutes. 
  3. While the peppers cook, whisk soy sauce, garlic, brown sugar, and sesame oil together in a small saucepan. Bring to a simmer, simmer for 2 minutes. Remove from heat. Whisk water and cornstarch together in a small ramekin. Slowly whisk into the soy sauce mixture. Return to the stove and simmer until thicken, about 30 seconds. Remove from heat. 
  4. When peppers are done, transfer to a bowl. Toss with glaze, orange peel and sesame seeds. Serve.
