Saltine Toffee

Saltine Toffee creates a crunchy, sweet treat by layering saltine crackers with a buttery brown sugar toffee, baked briefly, then topped with melted chocolate and optional nuts or sea salt. The saltines provide a crisp, slightly salty base that contrasts with the rich, fudgy toffee and smooth chocolate topping. This combination yields a textured candy that's easy to prepare and slice.

Notes

  • Use salted saltine crackers for the ideal balance of salty and sweet.
  • Dark brown sugar intensifies the toffee’s caramel flavor but light brown sugar can be substituted with a milder taste.
  • Bittersweet chocolate keeps the overall sweetness balanced compared to milk or semisweet varieties.
  • Chill or freeze the toffee after baking and topping to ensure easier breaking and a firm texture.
